Your Votes Are Shaping What Comes Next at Bezuidenhout Social Club

Over the past weeks, many of you took the time to fill in our community survey, join waitlists, and share your thoughts, wishes, ideas, and reflections.

Thank you.

Not as a formality, but because reading your responses felt less like reviewing data and more like reading a shared story.

As we moved through the answers, a clear pattern kept returning. Different words. Different people. The same underlying need.

What your responses told us was this:

  • We are not missing events. We are missing connection.

  • We are not missing activity. We are missing belonging.

  • We are not looking for networking. We are looking for new friendships.

  • We are not looking for big crowds. We are looking for like-minded people.

  • We are not just looking for “something to do.” We are looking for someone to do it with.

Reading this brought a quiet moment of recognition — and a joyful smile.

Because long before Bezuidenhout Social Club existed, we had felt exactly the same.

It confirmed something we have known from the beginning: what we are building together is not random. It is not simply “nice to have,” and it is not just social. It responds to a very real, very shared need in this community.

And that confirmation is powerful.

This Is Why BHSC Started

Bezuidenhout Social Club did not begin with a business plan or an event calendar.

It started from a very personal place: knowing what it feels like to live in a new city, in a new country, to build a life that looks full on paper, to be surrounded by people — and still miss the feeling of having your people nearby.

To miss being part of something without having to try so hard. To miss the comfort of local familiarity and support. To miss the ease of connection that feels natural.

What you shared in the survey confirms that this feeling is widely shared. Often unspoken. But very present.

And it reassures us that what we are creating together is deeply aligned with what many of us truly need.

What We Recognised Between the Lines

Beyond specific preferences and event ideas, something else became very visible.

Many of us are navigating life in a country that is not originally ours. Many of us are building friendships again as adults. Many of us are balancing busy work lives, family lives, and still wanting a social life that feels meaningful rather than exhausting.

Your answers reflected something we understand deeply:

Time is precious. Energy is precious.

And when we choose to go somewhere, we want it to feel worth it.

The Need Is Not for Big Things. It Is for Real Things.

What stood out most is that the desire is not for “more events.”

It is for small-scale, meaningful, recurring moments where:

  • Conversations can go beyond small talk

  • Faces become familiar over time

  • Showing up does not feel awkward after the first visit

  • There is continuity instead of one-off meetings

  • A sense of recognition can grow naturally

You want to meet people you might run into again. People you can slowly build familiarity with.

Not networking. Belonging.

A Shared Understanding of What Matters

What matters most, according to your responses, is surprisingly simple.

Nothing flashy. Nothing complicated.

Just consistent opportunities to show up, sit down, and be human together.

Many of you expressed the wish to meet others in a similar life phase, with similar interests, curiosity, and openness. People who understand you. People who are willing to show up for connection. People who want more than polite conversation.

Reading that felt like seeing the unwritten mission of Bezuidenhout Social Club reflected back to us by the community itself.

And we do not take that lightly.

Thank you for trusting us with your answers.Thank you for showing us, in your own words, what truly matters.Thank you for shaping what comes next.

We are listening. We are building. And we are doing this together.

What Happens Next

The good news is that the highest-voted event types are already in planning.

In the coming weeks, you will begin to see them appear on the calendar.

If you voted for something you hope will happen, stay tuned. You will likely recognize your choices returning as real gatherings in the neighbourhood.

More soon.

For now, we simply wanted to say how grateful we are to be walking this path together — slowly, intentionally, and locally.

What unfolds next is shaped by what we heard from you, and by the spirit that is already present in this community.
